As you start planning your holiday shopping, please remember that there is still time to donate to Shoes That Fit.

“Shoes That Fit” is a national non-profit organization helping children in need by providing new shoes and clothes so they can attend school in comfort and with dignity.  Research has shown that families are better able to help their children in school when they are not living from crisis to crisis and their basic needs are met.

For the 14th year, First National Bank has partnered with MediaCom to bring the Shoes that Fit campaign to Ames. This is the fourth year that First National Bank has brought the campaign to the West Des Moines and Johnston areas as well. This program is a success through the generosity of the community to fill the needs of students in our local schools.

How the program works:

MediaCom has contacted the elementary schools in Ames, Johnston, and West Des Moines. The schools identified students that are in need of shoes or clothing. During the fall, these needs are reported to Mediacom. MediaCom provides First National Bank with a display and need cards. Community members pick up need cards at First National Bank, purchase the item and return the item and need card to First National Bank. MediaCom delivers the items to the schools, just in time for the holidays!

Want to get involved?

If you would like to make a donation you can stop by any First National Bank to pick up a needs card starting Monday, October 2nd. Once you have fulfilled the request items, return it to First National Bank by Tuesday, October 31st. Don’t have the time to pick something up, but still want to participate? You can make a monetary donation, and we will do the shopping for you! Checks should be made payable to “Shoes That Fit” and dropped off at First National Bank.
